Response overflow after Nairn Hydrotherapy Pool call for support

The team behind a Nairn swimming pool have been overwhelmed by the positive response after they issued a call for help to carry out essential upgrades.

Nairn Hydrotherapy Pool posted on its social media channels last week in a last attempt to secure a plumber and builder to replace the facility’s damaged floor.

The warm water pool, which was set up 40 years ago, is run by a charity and is considered by many an invaluable resource for the community, offering courses for mums and babies as well as hydrotherapy and physiotherapy sessions.

However, the floor in place at the swimming pool at the moment is made of a material that expands and shrinks and, despite having been installed only two years ago, has now shrunk to the point that it needs to be urgently replaced.

Kayleigh McDine, who took over as manager this summer, said they were worried they would have to close after months of searching for people able to take the work on with no result.

“It’s been so frustrating,” she said.

“The workmen are just so busy, just trying to get someone who is available and wants the job has been really tricky! It’s a big job to do. So many would come to see what needed to be done, giving us the impression that they could take on the work, and then never got back in touch again.”

A last ditch attempt at seeing whether a post on Facebook could garner better results, however, prompted a flow of responses.

Ms McDine said they now hope to be able to plan the repair works, and were delighted with the response.

She said: “I just wanted to give a huge shout out to all of you who helped us out with our recent Facebook post about finding workmen for the Nairn Hydrotherapy Pool.

“We had some challenges, but your response was amazing — over 100 shares and tons of messages offering help!

“We’re now working on both short-term and long-term plans to upgrade our flooring, and it’s all thanks to your incredible support.

“A special thank you to our awesome community for stepping up, we truly appreciate it!”
