Two Highlands and Islands MSPs have paid their respects to fallen heroes ahead of Remembrance Sunday.

Labour regional members Rhoda Grant and David Stewart took some quiet moments at the cenotaph at Cavell Gardens in Inverness to remember given the absence this year during the pandemic of the usual parades and services that accompany the occasion.

Mr Stewart said: “Obviously we wish we could pay our respects like we have in previous years but, sadly, that cannot happen this year.

"However, it is still important to show your respects and be grateful to those who gave their lives for our freedoms.”

Ms Grant said: “Veteran charities such as British Legion and Poppyscotland are expecting to lose out on the opportunity to raise millions of pounds because of the coronavirus restrictions.

"This funding is crucial to allow them to provide support for our service personnel.

"I would encourage everyone that can to donate online or in supermarkets to support them in their work.”
