MFR set to sign off on local programming

MFR's last regular locally-produced programming will end at the start of next year with Jodie McCluskey's breakfast show axed.

“So sorry to hear this Jodie, you are the only reason my toddler and I listen to the show every morning . I won't be listening once you are off air.” - Anne Gunn

“I was there when Jimmy Logan laid the foundation stone! BBC it wasn't but great fun, gaining the nickname Furry Mouth Radio. Remember an afternoon presenter Charlie something, who was from Elgin, being criticised by someone from Tain because MFR were using a Sassenach!” - Alan John

“Start a new community radio station backed by local business promoting local and mainstream music catering to the Highlands’ preferred genre of music/ chat/ competitions/ charity, a good blend. Advertising local business and events, win-win.” - Emma Mitchell

“Folk listen to local radio because they engage with the presenters and vice versa. It's not going to be the same.” - Krysha Payne

“There are enough commercial radio stations on the go that are based elsewhere - if there is to be no local content, why do we need this one?” - Mark Lawless

“The final nail. Once synonymous with Inverness and the Highlands, it lost its soul when Bauer got their hands on it.” - Sean Wood

Bridge repair works delayed by a year

Vital repairs to keep Inverness’s Infirmary Bridge open have been delayed by a year after urgent structural work to the Rose Street car park left a hole in the council budget. The bridge needs more than half-a-million pounds worth of repairs to keep it open with work now delayed until next financial year.

“Car is king, clearly. Given all the work done on the cycle path and road past the Infirmary neglecting the bridge really doesn't make sense. Are we serious about accessible active travel or just doing some pretendy stuff?” - Evelyn Grant

“Really disappointing to see such a beautiful bridge widely used by pedestrians and desparately needing repairs being ignored in favour of repairing a car park.” - Sara Ramsey
