Inverness rapist’s jailing at High Court in Edinburgh ‘sends clear message’, says Police Scotland officers in the Highlands
The jailing of an Inverness rapist for five years sends a “clear message” to those “who prey on and abuse children”, police have said.
Lee Murray, a former youth football coach, was convicted at the High Court in Inverness recently after raping and sexually assaulting a young girl in the Inverness area.
The 53-year-old committed the crimes in his car between January 2021 and October 2022.
He was found guilty after a trial and returned to court today, this time in Edinburgh, to be sentenced.
Responding to his five year sentence, Detective Inspector Craig Thomson said: “Lee Murray was in a position of trust in the community when he targeted his young victim and subjected her to horrific sexual abuse.
“I hope this outcome sends a clear message to perpetrators who prey on and abuse children that we will thoroughly investigate all reports and ensure you face justice.
“We would urge anyone who has been a victim of this type of crime, or who has any concerns, to please contact Police Scotland on 101.”
