Rain and strong winds spark reduced speeds on Kyle Line, ScotRail warns train passengers
Heavy rain and high winds will hit train services between Inverness and the west coast tonight and first thing tomorrow, rail passengers have been warned.
Network Rail Scotland has advised travellers that speed restrictions will be introduced on the Kyle Line from 6pm.
This will lead to possible delays on the 5.13pm Kyle to Inverness service and the 5.54pm Inverness to Kyle journey.
Some services on the West Highland Line are also affected between Crianlarich and Fort William.
"Due to forecast heavy rain and high winds possibly exceeding 50mph, we'll limit train speeds on sections of the Kyle Line and Mallaig Line tonight from 5pm tonight until 10am tomorrow (July 5)," said Network Rail Scotland.
"This will extend journey times."
Redponding to the news, a ScotRail spokesperson added: "If you're travelling with us this evening, please not journey times will be slightly extended on the services... due to speed restrictions in place."
