Rail services between Inverness and Wick have been disrupted following a train derailment.

The incident, involving an engineering maintenance train, was low speed and happened between Forsinard and Altnabreac.

Scotrail said all lines are currently closed and disruption is expected until the end of the day.

Train services between Inverness and Wick will be cancelled, delayed or revised.

Passengers are advised to check whether their journeys are possible before travelling.

Affected services include the 4pm Wick to Inverness service which will be cancelled. Scotrail has requested alternative transport but is awaiting confirmation.

The 6.31pm Inverness to Wick service will be cancelled. One bus, provided by RS Coaches and one 16 seater, provided by McNeils, is confirmed at 6.31pm at Inverness.
