ScotRail confirms closure of Highland mainline between Perth and Pitlochry amid flooding and active Met Office weather warnings for torrential rain

RAIL passengers on the Highland mainline are facing major weather-related disruption for a second day.
The line was closed for a time between Perth and Pitlochry on Monday after flooding forced engineers to inspect the track’s embankments to make sure the route was still safe.
It later reopened following checks, but services were again suspended on Tuesday amid warnings of severe weather.
A ScotRail spokesman said: “Because of forecast severe weather between Perth and Pitlochry all lines are closed. Disruption is expected until the end of the day.
“Heavy rain has been forecast for this section of the railway, [and] as we have had issues with flooding in the past the decision has been made to close the line for your safety.
“Train services between Edinburgh/Glasgow and Inverness will be suspended between Perth and Pitlochry. Dunkeld & Birnam cannot be served by train.
“Staff will be sent to site to monitor water levels and report back on the condition of the track.”
Southbound trains are terminating at Pitlochry, while northbound services are ending in Perth.
