A Fort William man who made offensive racist comments and gesticulated towards a child in Inverness will be sentenced at the end of January.

Craig Cook, of Sealladh Na Beinne, Fort William appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court and admitted abusive behaviour which was committed in Harris Road, Inverness on May 14.

Defence solicitor David Patterson said his 33-year-old client was no stranger to the courts but his appearances were becoming fewer and a background report would be useful.

Sheriff Gary Aitken agreed and rather than hear the full facts from fiscal depute Martina Eastwood, he deferred sentence until January 30 and allowed Cook's bail to continue.
