BUSINESSES involved in education, the digital economy and drams are hoping to bring some national titles back to the Highlands.

Three Inverness businesses and one from Tomatin have been shortlisted in this year’s Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) Scotland Celebrating Small Business Awards.

The quartet will not be in competition with each other as they are all finalists in separate categories.

Inverness digital agency Yellow Cherry Digital has been shortlisted in the digital/e-commerce category. The business, which celebrated its 10th anniversary last year, offers a range of web-based services, including website design, tech support, social media management and email marketing, as well as a graphic design and print service.

Shortlisted in the international business category, TEFL Org began life in Jennifer MacKenzie’s garden shed, and within a decade could confidently claim to be the largest and most highly accredited TEFL (teaching English as a foreign language) course provider in the UK, with a growing customer base in east Asia. No stranger to accolades, last year Mrs MacKenzie was named by Insider.co.uk as one of 20 female business leaders to watch.

Completing the trio of Inverness finalists, Karen Simpson is nominated for the self-employed/sole trader award for her business, My Primary Tutor, which offers one-to-one and small group tuition in person and online to early stage primary school pupils.

Representing the Highlands in the micro business category is WOW Scotland of Tomatin. Led by husband and wife Gordon and Kay Pearson, the firm offers a range of scheduled tours from Inverness and Invergordon.

Winners will be named in Edinburgh on March 19.

They will qualify for the UK final in London in May and the possibility of emulating Cruise Loch Ness of Fort Augustus, which was the 2019 FSB UK small business of the year.
