Defibrillator installed at Chanonry Sailing Club, Fortrose Harbour
A public access defibrillator has been installed at Fortrose Harbour inside Chanonry Sailing Clubhouse.
The Club raised funds during 2022 to provide the life saving equipment for the busy area through a number of fun days where they offered tasting sessions of water activities to the community.
Club commodore, Sandra Hogg said: “I am very pleased that the Club has been able to install the new defibrillator. We feel the Club is part of the local community and while the defibrillator does provide important assistance in the event of an emergency occurring at the club, it is also there for the wider community and adds to the existing defibrillators available in Fortrose.”
It worked with the charity Lucky2BHere who provided the equipment and will deliver Emergency Life Saving training. Training will take place on Monday, 17 April at 7pm inside the Clubhouse, where members of the community can come along to find out how to use the defibrillator.
Pam Gowie, lead instructor for Lucky2BHere said: “The Resuscitation Council (UK) state, ‘only around 1 in 10 people who have a sudden cardiac arrest in the UK survive to hospital discharge, and their survival depends on people around them taking prompt action to try to save their life”.
"Lucky2BHere recognise the importance of community and school-based training and the need for everyone to learn the basic skills to save a life. We are delighted to be “back on the road” working with communities who have taken ownership of a Lucky2BHere public access defibrillator. We aim to equip people with the knowledge, skills and confidence to act immediately to help save a life.”
