The former Ashers Bakery in Church Street, Inverness could yet be turned into a pub.

The future of the former Ashers bakery shop in Church Street is back in the mixing bowl after the coronavirus pandemic affected plans to convert it to a pub.

The premises initially attracted interest from Aberdeenshire based bar chain BrewDog who seemed keen to open a bar in Inverness.

They withdrew after a planning glitch they withdrew.

Local businessman Bruce MacGregor, who runs MacGregor’s Bar in Academy Street, then opened moves to buy the premises.

But he has stepped down his interest due to the pandemic.

"Things are going to be hard enough as they are," he said.

Ashers director Alistair Asher said: "I’m afraid the pandemic put paid to all previous attention but it’s back on the market and creating interest already."

Ashers has permission for change of use to a bar from Highland Council, and now will be chasing planning permission for a new frontage, and also a drinks license.
