THE team behind a project to help struggling people in the Merkinch area of Inverness say they are aiming to keep it going, even as lockdown measures are eased.

The Merkinch Food Project is run by Merkinch Partnership and refers people in need to local food banks when necessary.

It also uses its own funds to provide hot lunches for those in particular need.

The project was recently awarded a £1550 grant from Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks’ (SSEN) resilient communities fund and is currently working with Highlands and Islands Enterprise in a bid to source further long-term funding for its work.

Manager Anne Sutherland said: “We’ve had a few people phoning who have lost their jobs and some who are furloughed.

“Our plan is to keep this going.”

The project can be contacted on 07872 014520.
