STUDENTS living in Cityheart accommodation at Inverness Campus have raised concerns about a party being held during the pandemic.

In a letter to operator Cityheart and the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI), students have raised concerns that some gatherings have become aggressive, with people turning up uninvited.

Cityheart Living which manages the accommodation on behalf of the UHI said it had reported an incident in the Cromarty building to the police.

One student, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "I recently attended a gathering which was taking place at the student accommodation at Inverness Campus. A number of guests turned up who were then asked to leave by the flat owner and other residents of the halls as there was too many people. "

A spokesman for Cityheart Living said: "We can confirm that we are aware of and have already commenced an investigation into an alleged incident and gathering in violation of current Covid-19 lockdown regulations at the student residences in Inverness.

"Cityheart Living, along with the University of Highland and Islands, continue to remind students of the latest Covid-19 regulations and the implications of them acting against them.

"We can confirm that this event was reported to the police and they are now dealing with it in the appropriate manner.

"For the avoidance of doubt no Cityheart staff members or employees were involved in the incident."

A spokeswoman for the UHI said: "We are aware of an alleged incident which took place at the student residences on Inverness Campus and we are working with Cityheart Living to investigate.

"Our priority is to provide a safe learning environment and we will continue to communicate the latest government guidance on Covid-19 to students around the university partnership.”

A police spokeswoman said it was unaware of the incident.
