A delighted Nairn woman has won the equivalent of a year's worth of energy bills after entering an online competition.

Householder Ann Chisholm said she broke the habit of a lifetime when she won the £1500 cash prize – equivalent to an average household's energy bills for a whole year.

She said: “When I heard I actually thought it was a joke as I usually never win anything! It’s lovely news.

“Now I won’t have to worry about my energy bills next winter. I might even have enough left over to give my kitchen a facelift.”

Ann won the prize by taking part in Home Energy Scotland’s spring consumer survey. Ann’s daughter Paula spotted the online competition and encouraged her mum to enter.

Five prizes were up for grabs across the country, including one for householders in the Highlands and Islands.

Home Energy Scotland offers impartial advice on saving energy. The Scottish Government-funded service is available by calling 0808 808 2282 on weekdays from 8am-8pm and Saturday 9am-5pm.
