AN influential figure in Highland Council has praised exciting plans for the redevelopment of the 1960s Upper Bridge Street buildings in Inverness – which have come from students.

Stuart Black, the local authority's director of development and infrastructure, described the ideas by architectural technology students at Inverness College UHI as excellent after seeing them at an open evening at the venue today.

He tweeted: "Excellent ideas on display today from #Architectural #Technology students @IC_UHI on future of #BridgeStreet #Inverness @InvernessCastle @cityregiondeal."

Fourth year BSc (Hons) students were set the challenge of redeveloping the carbuncle site as part of their final-year project.

The site was purchased by Highland Council for redevelopment last year.
