Power cut knocks out electricity to hundreds of homes in and around north-eastern Inverness, says Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN)

HUNDREDS of homes and businesses were left without electricity on Friday morning after a power cut hit north-eastern parts of Inverness and the surrounding area.

Some 55 separate postcodes, covering 650 homes and businesses, lost power at 8.52am. These ranged from parts of Smithton to Ardersier.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) said that power to 536 of those were restored by 10.45am, and said the remaining 114 should be reconnected by midday.

"The cause of the fault [was] still unknown as of 10.45am, but our engineers are on site investigating what caused it," said a spokesman.

"On the rare occasion there is a power cut, our priority is to restore supplies as safely and as quickly as possible."
