Power cut hits Inverness with residents and businesses in the Merkinch area left without an electricity supply – Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks has estimated that the fault will be fixed by 4.30pm

Residents living in the Merkinch area of Inverness have been hit by a power cut this afternoon.

The outage started at 12.48pm and it has been estimated that the fault will be fixed by 4.30pm.

Four postcode areas of the city are known to be affected including: IV3 8AE, IV3 8DU, IV3 8EA and IV3 8EX.

A spokesman for Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) said: "We’re sorry for the loss of supply. We currently have a fault affecting the areas listed.

"Our engineers are on site working hard to get the power back on as quickly as they can."
