A four-acre secure dog field in Inverness will have to limit availability to dogs if owners don't pick up 'deposits' after use.

Owners of The Field, on Loch Ness Road who offer a safe fenced-off area that can be booked for appointments to exercise dogs for a £10 per-hour fee, have said unless some owners are more responsible then it will be forced to consider installing CCTV at the site.

The problem has escalated in recent days after owners were found not to pick up after themselves.

A message on the group's Facebook page said: "Today we received a message from a customer who had to cut their play date short because their puppy was feasting on the poo left behind by some less than diligent users.

"The photograph is what they collected before running out of bags and making the decision to leave early."

"The puppy is now quite poorly with a bloated tummy and runny bum. This isn't right or fair."

It continued: "If this current situation doesn't improve then we will have no option but to limit the availability of The Field to keep on top of it. We are also reviewing our options regarding CCTV. Both of these options come with financial implications But this situation can't go on - its disgusting, unhygienic and simply unfair on everyone.

"We were there a few days ago and did a full sweep of the field. We need daylight to do this and, to keep as many daylight appointments available for you all to book, we need our users to clean up after their dogs."

"All dog owners should have a roll of poo bags in every coat pocket and back ups in the glovebox."

The group added: "If the field is not clean when you arrive, please let us know so we can check who has been in prior to you.

"We apologise to all of our responsible owners who make the effort to keep the field clean; they understand this service is a lifeline to so many in our community.

"The Field Inverness has been our dream for so long, and we know it's such a valued resource, so it's really difficult to see it and our community being treated with such disrespect by a small minority."
