It provoked heated debate across social media: should the slang word ‘jag’ or ‘jab’ be used for injection?

Some got all prickly at (while others supported), NHS Highland’s apparent endorsement of the slang term ‘jab’ on launching the new ‘Jabbernaut’ – rather than 'the Jaggernaut’ – mobile Highland service for vaccinations.

Others tried to inject a strong shot of sedative into the debate by insisting that, in all honesty, it really didn’t matter.

We put the question to our readers in a poll and, perhaps unsurprisingly, opinion was split.

However, a majority – 46 per cent – favoured ‘jag’, while 32 per cent opted for ‘jab’.

The remaining 22 per cent, perhaps sensibly, stayed cool and calm, and plumped for the 'doesn’t matter' option.
