CYCLISTS are gearing up for a “polite protest” against changes to a major city road they say do not take account of their needs.

Bear Scotland and Transport Scotland previously announced improvement plans for the A82 as it passes through the city from the Longman Industrial Estate to Glenurquhart Road, including new pedestrian crossings.

But Mick Heath, secretary of the Highland Cycling Campaign, said: “The planned improvements utterly fail to provide the safe active travel path infrastructure needed by active travellers in Inverness.”

Protesters on bikes and trikes are therefore planning to gather at the B&Q car park in Longman Road at 12.45pm on Saturday for a 1pm start. They will ride the route together in a bid to highlight the shortcomings of the proposed changes.
