Police thank Highlanders but urge them to continue to play their part in coronavirus fight
POLICE have moved to thank all Highland communities for their "patience and compliance" during lockdown as restrictions begin to ease.
Officers are continuing to carry out patrols in the region as people adjust to the 'new normal', and have asked the public to do their bit to make the easing of restrictions a success – by respecting anywhere they visit and sticking to social distancing rules.
Superintendent Iain MacLelland said: "We are asking people to take personal responsibility, to do the right thing and to remember the purpose of these measures is to aid the collective effort to stay safe, protect others and save lives by preventing the virus from spreading.
"Our officers will continue to engage with the public, explain the legislation and guidance and encourage compliance. We will use enforcement as a last resort only where there is a clear breach of the legislation.
"We recognise that people have made significant sacrifices but we would ask people to use their judgement. Whether it is indoors or outside, please avoid places which are busy to prevent over-crowding and close contact with other groups."
