A “dedicated road safety operation on the A9” by Highlands and Islands Road Policing officers saw 71 vehicles stopped and four drivers reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

The operation was staged on Wednesday at Drumochter where Officers added that “a number of vehicles were prohibited from further use on the road until road worthiness is achieved”.

Three men, aged 29, 47 and 59, as well as a 39-year-old woman will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with road traffic offences and a number of others were barred from continuing until they were deemed road worthy.

Though the focus was on commercial vehicles travelling on the A9 throughout the day, police stopped a range of vehicles and engaged with drivers, ensuring compliance and offering road safety advice.

Constable Martin Macrae said: “We are committed to making our roads as safe as possible for everyone. This includes ensuring that professional drivers are complying with drivers hours legislation and that all vehicles are in road worthy condition.”
