Police Scotland wants people to comment on its draft Gaelic language plan.

Police Scotland has published a draft Gaelic language plan and is inviting comments from members of the public.

The consultation, conducted by means of a online survey, seeks to gather public views on the organisation's use of Gaelic between 2021-26.

The draft plan was prepared by police under the Gaelic Language (Scotland) Act 2005 legislation.

Police said the plan was developed to support the National Gaelic Language Plan’s overarching ambition that “Gaelic is used more often, by more people and in a wider range of situations”.

The document has three aims: to increase the use of Gaelic throughout Police Scotland, to increase the learning of Gaelic and lastly, to promote a positive image of the language.

It sets out in detail how it will achieve this, the plan can be found by clicking here.

Stakeholders, partners and members of the public are invited to take part in this consultation.

The survey can be found by clicking here, it should take no longer than eight minutes to complete.

A police spokeswoman said: "We'd like to hear your thoughts on Police Scotland's draft Gaelic Language Plan.

"Your views are an important to us as they will enable us to build on our engagement with members of communities across Scotland who speak and have an interest in the Gaelic language.

"Prepared within the framework of the Gaelic Language (Scotland) Act 2005, it sets out to support the National Gaelic Language Plan’s overarching aim that “Gaelic is used more often, by more people and in a wider range of situations”.

The survey closes on 5 Sept 2021.
