Police recovered almost £5000 worth of herbal cannabis following a routine check on a vehicle.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that officers were on patrol on March 16, when they saw Jack Clark (20) talking to a car-load of passengers outside his house in Merkinch Place.

They were all spoken to and the constables immediately detected a strong smell of cannabis coming from Clark, fiscal depute Robert Weir told Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald.

"He began to back away from the officers, but was detained nearby and a blue rucksack was recovered from his back," Mr Weir said.

It contained 815g of the drug plus £2069.32. Scales and bags were also found.

A search was then carried out of Clark’s home and another 14g of cannabis was recovered.

Clark admitted being concerned in the supply of the class C drug. He had sentence deferred for a background report until August 2.
