Police, some believed to be armed, were called to an incident in Boath Park, Nairn this afternoon.

An investigation was launched at around 1pm, following reports of a loud bang.

Officers stood down after enquiries were made.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "At around 1.40pm on Thursday, 14 January, officers were called to the Sutors Avenue area of Nairn following a report of a loud bang that sounded like a gunshot.

"Local officers were supported by specialist resources and conducted enquiries in the area.

"The source of the sound is believed to have been identified as a coming from an animal training device.

"No further police action is required."
