Police Scotland appeal to public for help in clampdown on illegal dirt bike use in Inverness

Police in Inverness are appealing for help in clamping down on illegal use of dirt bikes on public land around Inverness.

Officers are warning that anyone caught in the activity will face criminal charges and may have their bike confiscated.

It follows complaints from locals who have witnessed use of the bikes, and damage resulting from use, at a number of city sites.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We are aware of the illegal use of riding dirt bikes on public land around Inverness.

“The main areas identified are the Caledonian Canal towpaths, Dalneigh Park, Culloden Woods and the Merkinch Nature Reserve.

“We would encourage the public to report such use of dirt bikes as it poses a danger to the public and destroys our green space.

“When reporting, please provide as much detailed information as you can.”

That includes:

- times, days, and locations;

- make, colour of size of a bike;

A skilled dirt biker takes to the skies.

- details of clothing, helmets, and other distinguishing marks;

- where bikes are being kept.

The spokesman added: “Information can be given directly to us through 101 or 100 per cent anonymously via CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111.

“If you are caught using your dirt bike on public land, you will face criminal charges and you may have your bike seized at your expense.”
