Police are hunting culprits who crashed a car onto the beach beside an Inverness nature reserve then fled.

The grey Volkswagen approached Ferry Point in South Kessock at speed, mounting the kerb at the car park and careering down a grassy bank onto the rocky shore of the Moray Firth.

The accident happened on Tuesday evening at a spot popular with walkers, near the entrance to Merkinch Local Nature Reserve.

An eyewitness reported hearing the car race down Kessock Road followed by a loud bang.
