Officers from Police Scotland are warning residents about an emerging property rental scam.

A spokesman said: "Police Scotland would like to advise of an emerging scam involving property rental.

"Prospective tenants are advised not to transfer deposits or funds into bank accounts without first carrying out due diligence checks with any letting agencies/property owners.

"Anyone who is advertising a property for rent should be registered with the Scottish Landlord Register and may also use a letting agent. Checks should be carried out prior to transferring funds.”
