An auction will be held to sell off the eye-catching squirrels that have formed Highland Hospice's Go Nuts art trail throughout the summer.

The trail continues until the end of September and the auction will be held in November.

Highland Hospice fundraising manager Amanda Forbes said that the trail has been a huge success.

“It’s brilliant, both adults and kids are posting their pictures with the squirrels and it has become very popular,” she said. “We just had the first family to complete the whole trail two weeks ago.

“This is the first art trail of its kind in the Highlands and it’s great because it encourages people to travel around.

“It’s something original and different and relates to the idea of protecting local wildlife.”

Ms Forbes said that sponsors of the sculptures are likely to be putting in bids in for the squirrels when the trail ends but that anyone is welcome to take part in the auction including individuals, community groups or those coming together for a crowdfunding effort.

“We are hoping to get many people interested in the event and in the auction,” Ms Forbes said.

The Go Nuts Dinner and Auction night will be held in Daviot on November 23 from 6.30pm and will include a three-course meal plus music by Scottish folk band Rhythmnreel.

The sculptures, all individually painted by a range of artists, will have one last public outing together to mark the end of the trail in Inverness’s Falcon Square on the last weekend in September.
