PICTURES: Youngsters in Inverness get their hands on UEFA Championship cup

INVERNESS football fans had the chance to see the coveted trophy of the UEFA European Championship first-hand when it visited the city’s leisure centre yesterday.

It was part of The Hampden Roar, an interactive exhibition which is touring across Scotland this week to connect fans with the competition.

The event aims to bring iconic moments from the competition to life and give fans the chance to see the Henri Delaunay Cup.

According to a recent survey 1996 was the favourite championship year for Scottish fans and 51 per cent of those surveyed felt Greece winning in 2004 was the best single moment in the tournament’s history.

Paul Bush, VisitScotland’s director of events, said: “We are extremely excited to be working with all the partners to bring this iconic trophy to Scotland for the first time.”

Richard McBrearty, curator of the Scottish Football Museum, said: “We are a proud delivery partner for The Hampden Roar, a fantastic way to showcase just some of the rich collection we have at the museum.”
