PICTURES: World Book Day is a hit in Highland schools
World Book Day took over Inverness schools and nurseries as literary heroes were brought to life.
For the occasion, pupils at Muirtown Primary were not only in full costume but also organised a fundraiser to support fellow youngsters at Park Primary in Invergordon, which was recently ravaged by fire.
Through a bake sale and activities during the day, the school raised more than £250 for their Ross-shire counterparts.
Clerical assistant Laura Hopkins said: “It was a very successful day, we had many children and members of staff dressing up and the effort put into the creation of some of the outfits was incredible.
“And, of course, there was plenty of cake, which made it even better!”
Children at the Inverness College UHI Early Learning and Childcare Centre were involved in book-related activities and senior members of the management team read a selection of stories to them.
Emma Slaney, from the nursery, said: “The day was a big success, we had a really good turnout of children dressing up and they really enjoyed the stories and activities.”
Marked in around 100 countries, World Book Day is a Unesco celebration which seeks to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books.
The organisation also provides children and young people with book tokens to buy books or have a discount on a book purchase.
