Around 70 people attended a tree planting day organised by Dunain Community Wood as part of a Big Climate Fightback scheme.
A total of 400 trees were planted in the Future Forest area of the woodland, with the aim of enriching the local wood and bringing in new wildlife.
Organiser Debbie Borthwick said: “The day was a great success, we didn’t expect that many people to come and all the trees were planted well before the expected time.
“It was great to see how the event brought the community together.
“The local woodland is well used by residents who walk and cycle around here and they take care of it.
“This is part of a wider rewilding project in the area, the Future Forest, and we hope that it will encourage new wildlife to flourish here. We already have a big population of birds and red squirrels but we hope to improve it even more.
“We hope to organise other events in a bid to maintain the trees planted and so that each person who planted a tree can follow its progress over time.”
The trees, a mixture of native species, were donated by the Woodland Trust.
This event was part of a UK-wide tree planting programme, with events organised all over the country to contribute to rewilding and campaigning for environmental sustainability.
