An Inverness-based fabric designer and an ethically-run bed manufacturer are embarking on an eco-friendly design collaboration.

Lucy Wagtail Interiors is teaming up with Highland BlindCraft Beds to offer an alternative to traditional foam-based sleep products by using all natural materials in mattresses and headboards.

This move, described as a “breakthrough in sustainable furniture design” is in tune with the two businesses’ commitment to increasing their range of eco-friendly homeware products.

The two organisations, the latter of which operates as a charity employing blind people, believe they can meet an increasing demand for more sustainable options in interiors and furniture.

Lucy Wagtail Interiors markets its products online and the collaboration has developed a range of eco-friendly homeware products for consumers throughout the UK.

The firm says it is a step forward in taking Lucy Wagtail Interiors’ new fabric ranges to market while staying true to their commitment to eco-friendly practices.

The collaboration has seen the development of a range of wool padded headboards

and bed bases made using natural products, both covered in a choice of Lucy

Wagtail Interiors uniquely designed fabrics.

To complete the perfect eco-friendly bed, Highland BlindCraft offer their brand new Eco-Mattress made from bamboo as a sustainable alternative to foam.

All Lucy Wagtail fabrics are printed to order to avoid textile waste and use eco-friendly inks on base fabrics of natural fibres.

A wide range of fabric prints are available for consumers to choose from to cover the headboards and beds.

Irene Massey, owner of Lucy Wagtail Interiors, said: “Reducing fabric waste and encouraging the use of natural fibres speaks to our passion for offering a more sustainable, slow-living approach to interiors.

“Highland BlindCraft beds are, and always have been, made to last, being carefully handcrafted from the start. Our collaboration has created a stylish and truly eco-friendly product choice for the UK consumer using all natural materials and with a natural fabric covering to suit our customers’ décor.

“This collaboration represents a breakthrough in sustainable furniture design and we are delighted that Highland BlindCraft Beds have agreed to work with us in bringing this exciting new product to market.”
