PICTURES: Syrian families hit the right note at Beauly event
Three Syrian families took part in a workshop organised by an Inverness-based music charity.
It was held at the Phipps Hall in Beauly and around 12 youngsters and six adults took part.
During the session, traditional Syrian food was shared and people were encouraged to play a variety of instruments including trumpets, guitars and drums, as well as traditional Scottish instruments such as bagpipes, fiddles and accordions.
Rod Shannon, a director with RoKzKool Academy, said it was a good way for the Syrians to integrate and there were some good musicians within the group. He added: “It was an amazing day. They took to the stage very easily and we taught them some basics. Integration was a big thing for us.”
He said creative activities such as playing music helped people to build confidence and took their minds off the problems affecting their homeland.
