Nairn Christmas lights switch-on with huge street party

A Christmas extravaganza has taken place in Nairn.

The Christmas lights switch-on took place at 4pm today (November 30) with hundreds in attendance.

Rosebank Primary pupil Georgia Theman (5) received the honour of turning on the lights after winning a bauble decorating contest.

It was an all-day Street Party with a market and Santa’s Grotto open from 10am on the High Street and at the Nairn Community and Arts Centre.

Entertainment was also put on with Highland dancers and The Sound Guys leading some musical numbers. The Sound Guys were fronted by Ness Factor finalist Jo Turner and although they played a classic festive number by Slade, they also had the crowd dancing to tracks by Foo Fighters, Stevie Wonder and Paulo Nutini.

Families had the opportunity to learn circus skills such as hula hooping and spinning plates with Fly Agaric Performing Arts.

There were a number of charities represented, with Saints Sled Dog Rescue even bringing along four huskies.
