The Arctic blast may have brought an early taste of winter, but it also delighted many Highlanders with its spectacular effect on the landscape.

The Courier has been sent a bunch of snowy snapshots from scenes across the region.

And with a yellow warning for snow and ice still in force until well into tomorrow - and a further warning of heavy snow before the thaw sets in this weekend, there’ll likely be plenty of opportunities to nab some some suitably snowy snapshots between now and then.

Commenting on the currently active warning, a Met Office spokesperson warned that an additional 20cm could fall on higher ground, with accumulations of up to 5cm “fairly widely” in some lower areas. They said: "Snow showers will affect many northern and western areas of Scotland through Wednesday and overnight into Thursday.

"The showers will be frequent at times and may also be accompanied by hail. Snow accumulations are likely to reach two to five centimetres fairly widely with up to 10 centimetres in some areas, especially northwestern parts of the mainland.

"Over high ground, above about 300 metres, 15 to 20 cm could accumulate in this time period. Ice will will be an additional hazard, forming readily on untreated surfaces (particularly after dark)."
