Inverness feels the full force of winer snows

WINTER tightened its grip on the north overnight, with heavier snow showers across the Highlands into this morning.

While many children had already enjoyed a day off when a number of schools and nurseries closed yesterday, the number of those impacted increased significantly today with many more closures across a wider area.

School bus services across the region were also cancelled.

Snow and ice warnings across the region will remain active until well into Friday now, having previously been due to end at 11.59pm tonight.

Current forecasts suggest temperatures will not rise significantly again until Sunday though this could also be subject to change.
