Rapid repairs to a flood-damaged footpath in Cromarty have earned the praise of two local councillors.

The popular and well-used Reeds Park path leading to the south sutor was badly-hit by heavy rains a few weeks ago.

A small bridge collapsed and became a hazard for walkers.

Given the route’s popularity, it was deemed a priority repair for Highland Council with

The local authority’s outdoor access manager Phil Waite securing a small budget to replace the bridge with large pipes.

Fortunately, contractor KJ Mackenzie was available to do the work at short notice.

Mr Waite then spoke with the community council and landowner to make the necessary arrangements.

Highland councillor Craig Fraser, who lives in Cromarty, said: “I am really chuffed with this work and really thank the council staff and contractor for doing a great job so quickly.”

Fellow Black Isle councillor Gordon Adam, chair of the Dingwall, Black Isle and Seaforth committee, added: “This is a very popular walking route with locals and the many visitors who come to spend time in Cromarty and the Black Isle.

“At this time of year people are keen to get outdoors and stretch their legs, so having the path improved so promptly is very welcomed and everyone involved should be congratulated.”
