A new restaurant and takeaway specialising in flame-grilled chicken is set to open later today in Inverness.

Maeme’s, with more than a dozen piri-piri chicken grills across the UK, is awaiting Highland Council’s final blessing to open the doors at unit 4 of the Eastgate Centre, near to where Eastgate, Crown Road and Stephen’s Brae converge.

The management had hoped to open this lunchtime, but is awaiting final rubberstamping of paperwork. The exact time of opening is not yet known, but mid-afternoon is likeliest.

When it does open, customers will be able to take advantage of special May 1 offer of 50 per cent off all food orders all day until 11pm closing.

The firm has created seven jobs at the premises.

Opening plans were first mooted in February and then in March, but delayed for unspecified reasons.

The manager told us: “We’re really excited to be bringing our popular menu to the city of Inverness and we hope customers will appreciate our opening day offer.”

The unit, previously occupied by Game and Fat Face, had stood vacant for a period of time before Maeme’s took on the let.
