People in Nairnshire gathered to remember those who sacrificed their lives for peace and freedom, marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

A series of commemorative services were held at war memorials in Croy, Cawdor, Ardclach, Auldearn, and Nairn for local communities to come together and remember the fallen.

This was the first time that the acts of remembrance have been planned at multiple locations during the day.

Nairn Legion President, Bob Towns, said: “Today’s commemorations were very well received, and we had an excellent turnout in Cawdor and Nairn.

“This year, the Lord Lieutenant was keen that we did not concentrate the memorial service in Nairn, so that other communities could attend. It was a wonderful way to pay our tributes.”

Following the succession of acts of remembrance, individual poppies were distributed across various cemeteries in the area.
