AN Anti-Valentine Drag Night has raised £1000 for this summer’s Highland Pride event in Inverness.

More than 150 people attended the evening at the city’s Botanic House which featured performances by drag queen Venus Guytrap and drag king Jamie McCormick.

It was part of a month-long programme, put together by Highland Pride to coincide with LGBT History Month, featuring a range of activities including film screenings, book readings and walks.

Highland Pride events manager Jess Taylor thanked everyone who had supported the drag night.

“We had the most amazing fundraiser for Highland Pride 2020,” she said.

“Our drag performers put on a thrilling live show and the atmosphere was just electric.

“The theme may have been anti-Valentine’s but there was so much love on the night!”

The Winter Pride programme builds on the success of the second Pride march in Inverness last summer when more than 10,000 people took part, making it one of the biggest in Scotland.

Other events include a public consultation being staged today by Equality Network to discuss the Scottish Government’s proposals to reform the Gender Recognition Act.

It will be held at the Spectrum Centre in Inverness from 6.30pm-8.30pm. Entry is free but people need to reserve a place. On Sunday, there will be a Highland Pride Walk starting at Eden Court at 1pm.

This summer’s Highland Pride will take place in Bught Park, Inverness, on July 19 and will feature a march through the city centre followed by speeches, music and other activities including a village and craft fair.
