PICTURES: National Bike week marked by Kidical Mass Inverness with big turn out for street cycling event to push for safer streets

Kidical Mass Inverness hosted another event on Saturday, with 75 keen cyclists turning out to ride in city streets.

The inclusive group hosts monthly cycles around the city centre to advocate for safer and more cycle-friendly roads.

People of all ages showed up on a variety of bikes, trikes, wheelchairs and scooters to enjoy the cycle from Bellfield Park to the Northern Meeting Park.

The event marked National Bike Week which celebrated local communities and advocated for a more cycle-friendly UK.

Bridie Barnett of Kidical Mass said: “We were pretty pleased with the turnout. The aims of Kidical Mass tie-in the with aims of Bike Week to try and encourage more people onto their bikes and to make people more aware of the positive elements of cycling.

“Kids love cycling and it gives them a sense of freedom and at the same time the message we are trying to get across to local and national government is that we need better cycling facilities so kids and less confident adults can cycle safely on the roads.

“It would be lovely to see a city that is designed more about people, pedestrians and cyclists.”
