Nigel Campbell served as the original chairman of the Highland Skate Park Association (HSPA) for more than 10 years, playing a pivotal role in devising and attracting funding for first class facilities in Inverness and Muir of Ord.

For well over a decade, he oversaw the development of the new skatepark near Bught Park in Inverness as well as a covered skatepark in Muir of Ord.

Nigel is moving south to be closer to family and the reins of the HSPA are being passed to Taran Campbell and James King, two others who have been involved with the HSPA since its inception.

Taran, who runs Playback bar and Infinity Trampoline Park in Inverness, is the HSPA’s new chairman.

He said: “Under Nigel’s direction, we not only got one of Scotland's largest and best skateparks and an all-weather facility in Muir of Ord, but he also facilitated years of skateboard coaching sessions, competitions and several skateboard trips across the country.

“Managing a coach full of excited and boisterous skateboarders and BMX riders is a challenge on its own!

“The skateboard community in the Inverness area is thriving and I have no doubt that this is a result of all the years of work from Nigel. For well over a decade, he put countless hours.

“He gave us a place to meet and practice our passion together and he introduced skateboarding to literally hundreds of children/young people.

“There are several people who have put an incredible amount of work in over the years to feed this special community, but none more so than Nigel.

“It's not overstating it to say that he has done more for wheeled sports enthusiasts in the Highlands than any other person, and we want to take this opportunity to recognise and celebrate his efforts.”

The HSPA plans to continue building on Nigel’s legacy with continuing coaching and events, as well as working towards expanding the existing facilities, creating new outdoor skateparks and the Highlands first indoor skatepark.
