Around 140 youngsters had the chance to learn about future career options in a special event at Glen Urquhart High School.

Teenagers at Glen Urquhart High School and youngsters from partner primary schools heard from representatives of 38 different organisations about a variety of professions at the school’s latest careers fair.

Teachers Iain Fulton, Louise Power and David Humphris organised the event.

Clerical assistant Louise Power said: “It has been the most successful event of its kind so far.

“Around 140 pupils attended, which is more than half of our entire school roll.

“This was the main event during the S3 Week of Work, where we take all S3 off their timetables and show them a variety of careers, from trips to see behind the scenes at businesses to presentations from motivational speakers.

“There are also mock interviews with industry professionals.

“Evaluations from pupils and parents show these activities are a highly positive experience and help pupils come to terms with future choices. It is especially good to have the great variety of presenters and businesses supporting our efforts. Also, pupils note that they are now much more aware of apprenticeship routes.”

Businesses involved also provided positive feedback, she added.
