Emergency services have been tackling a house fire in Aviemore believed to have been caused after the property was struck by lightning.

Fire appliances were sent from Aviemore and Grantown to tackle the fire which is understood to have broken out during a big storm earlier this morning.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they have despatched fire appliances from both Aviemore and Grantown to the house in Grampian View at the north end of the village.

Fire could be seen blazing from the roof of the property along with billowing smoke.

The incident occurred whilst there was a huge thunder and lightning storm in the vicinity.

It is understood that the blaze was caused by a lightning strike but there is no official confirmation yet.

It broke out just after 10am and brought heavy rain, vivid lightning bolt and some of the loudest thunder to be heard in Aviemore for many years.
