Imaginative machines created from everyday discarded materials are set to wow onlookers during a special exhibition on the Black isle this weekend.

Mark Stevens, who has been creating fake machines of war from all manner of parts for more than 26 years, will be putting some of his extraordinary creations on display at The Old Brewery in Cromarty on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 2, 3 and 4 from 10am to 4pm each day.

"For over 26 years now, Mark has been creating amazingly detailed, imaginative machines from an extraordinary range of discarded materials," said a spokesperson for the Cromarty Arts Trust.

"He creates fake machines of war that are in their own quiet way, a devastating attack in the 'War on Waste'.

"They are whimsical, useless, non-functional, fantastic, but explore the machine aesthetics of that pure function, that of destruction.

"If only they could put an end to the terrible quantities of waste that our society creates every single day."

They added: "This is a much requested, return visit as well as another rare opportunity to see a large selection of Mark's creations seldom seen in public."

The exhibition, entitled 'Rising Up from the Rubbish Tip', will run from 10am to 4pm each day. All ages are welcome and the exhibition is free to all.

Special model-making workshops will also be hosted by Mr Stevens, and will be available to book on Saturday and Sunday at 1.30pm. These are £10 per person.
