Culloden Academy in Inverness shows off new £1.5m astro pitch and games facility
Delighted school staff have given a sneak peek of their new astro pitch and outdoor sports area ahead of its first use after the October half-term.
Culloden Academy took to its social channels to post an aerial drone shot of the new astro pitch, as well as the multi-use games area.
"Both facilities will be open for use after the October half-term," said a spokesperson. "These facilities will help further increase the quality and quantity of PE, sport and activity at the school and allow us to offer an increased range of sporting experiences, including hockey and tennis, as well as after school fixtures under the floodlights.
"If there are any sports clubs in the area that are interested in promoting their sport/activity through the PE curriculum and/or getting involved in our extra-curricular activities at the school then please get in touch."
The construction of the new facilities cost £1.5 million and are part of a wider masterplan for the long term redevelopment of Culloden Academy which proposes construction in three phases and the eventual demolition of the current school building.
Speaking after it awarded the building contract for the pitch to Morrison Construction earlier this year, a council spokeswoman confirmed: “The pitch will be used by both Culloden Academy during school hours and available for community used outwith school hours for public hire.
“It will be suitable for a range of sports, with pitch markings for football, and hockey.”
They added that there are also spaces for tennis, basketball, and a muster area at the bottom of the synthetic pitch.
