Shops, bars, restaurants and other outlets are busy welcoming customers back across the city for the first time this year.

As coronavirus-related lockdown restrictions eased, non-essential retail and outdoor hospitality businesses have once again thrown their doors open to welcome shoppers and diners.

Shoppers were queuing outside a number of premises on Monday, even before opening time, hoping to grab themselves a bargain as a number of outlets promised opening offers to clear winter stock to make way for new spring and summer items.

Colin Craig, Inverness Business Improvement District’s (BID) vice-chairman, was delighted that the latest easing of lockdown had finally taken place.

“It’s really important that we get back to some kind of normality and hopefully our customers will support us, because we do need people to come back and bring their economic activity into the city centre,” he said.

Working hard to keep members up to date with the rules and regulations that will allow them to reopen safely, he added: “BID has also been working very closely with Highland Council to do what we can to link business and the local authority together so we are creating the right environment for the public to feel safe about returning to the shops.

“The response from the public has been very positive so far and there has certainly been a lot of goodwill on show from everybody on their return to the city centre.”

BID thanks the council for all its support in the lead up to the city centre reopening.
