Detectorists’ Black Isle event raises hundreds for Ross Sutherland Rugby Club and unearths 17th century finds

Charity and history combined in a spectacular fashion in fields on the Black Isle recently - after a charity metal detecting event raised hundreds for a good cause and detected centuries-old finds.

Forty-five people attended the charity metal detecting event, which was held by Kenny Horsfield, Alex Mackay, Lamil Lipiński and Matthew Watters in the Tore area.

The event was a big success, raising £670 for Ross Sutherland Rugby Club.

“This was our first ever event and we had 45 people attending,” explained Kenny. “We aim to hold these events throughout the year to raise as much as possible for charities in the local area.

“We had some excellent finds an annular brooch found by Donald maclennan from brora dating from the 1600s to late 1700s.

“A King Charles I half crown silver coin dated from 1600-1649 was found by Kamil Lipiński, a King Edward Irish silver hammered penny dating from around the 1200s was found by Mary Elizabeth from inverness and there were plenty of other fantastic finds.

“The money raised will help towards funding new equipment for the rugby club who cater for all ages of players girls and boys form the minis primary 1-7 to the senior squad “

The organisers wish to thank the farmer, Andrew Grigor, who gave them permission to detect on their land.
