PICTURES: Blooming good display at annual Nairn gardening show

Plants, flowers and crafts coloured the main hall at Nairn Community and Arts Centre on Saturday for an annual gardening event.

Th 42nd Annual Show of Nairn and District Gardening Club took place on Saturday (August 10) and saw gardening enthusiasts from the area show their best produce and skills on the day.

Anne Vincent, chair of the gardening club, said: “What a splendid display of flowers, fruit and vegetables.

“All gardeners would acknowledge that this has been a challenging growing season, with a particularly dismal June.

“Nevertheless, the enthusiastic gardeners of Nairn and the surrounding area still managed to produce creditable results. We were delighted that year’s show had attracted several new exhibitors who had clearly enjoyed taking part.”

Trophies were presented by Kathryn Pitts, chair of Scottish Gardeners’ Forum, an organisation which provides support and advice to gardening societies in Scotland.

Mari Reid, who runs a plant nursery at Ruthven Cottage, was awarded Best in Show for her impressive vase of perennials.

After the show, bouquets of flowers were distributed to the care homes giving pleasure to the staff and residents.
